NatWest Cymru is aiming to inspire a new generation of young Welsh-speaking entrepreneurs.
The bank will later this month host its first Welsh-language entrepreneurship workshop for 16 to 18-year-olds. Anelu’n Uwch, which means Dream Bigger in Welsh, is part of the bank’s Dream Bigger programme, an initiative NatWest launched to empower females aged between 16 and 18 with transferrable entrepreneurial skills.
Anelu’n Uwch will be run as a digital workshop over three days and will be open to all genders aged between 16 and 18-years-old to attend. It is fully funded by NatWest and each day will feature an individually themed one-hour workshop over Zoom led by Siwan Rees, NatWest Entrepreneurship Development Manager for Wales.
The interactive webinar-style sessions will give young people an insight into entrepreneurism and the mindset and purpose needed to launch a business as well as confidence in preparation for the world of work. The workshops will run from August 25 to 27 at 2pm each day.
Siwan said: “I’m really excited about leading our first Welsh language workshop for young people. As a fluent Welsh-speaker I believe this is such an important step the bank has taken to support young Welsh-speakers learn more about entrepreneurism and benefit from the transferable skills you can gain through the programme. The workshops are going to be fun and exciting and bring lots of positives to those that attend.”
The workshops will also feature Megan Coates, a 27-year-old Welsh-speaking entrepreneur from Cardiff who last year launched Pethau, a successful online retail business, from her home in Llandaff.
She said: “It’s going to be great sharing my experiences as a young entrepreneur. You don’t need years of experience behind you to start a business or to benefit from the skills entrepreneurism can give you in your professional working life. The big asset is mindset and drive and knowing how to focus your skills in the right way.”
